ATHOL- Vernon Lincoln Brooks, 90, of Athol, died Monday, July 4th, in his home.
He was born January 22, 1926, in Middleborough, son of the late John William Brooks, Jr. and Mildred C. (White) Brooks. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Mr. Brooks relocated to Athol in the mid 1960’s when he purchased MacMannis Florist and Greenhouses. He enjoyed the business and the community so much that he never retired. He was
Past President and Life Member of the Athol/Orange Rotary Club. He was also a member of the Athol/Orange Elks Club and the North Quabbin Lodge of Freemasons.
Mr. Brooks was an avid sports enthusiast. He never missed a Patriots, Red Sox, or Celtics game. He enjoyed the ocean and truly loved his family, his business, and his community.
He leaves his wife of 64 years, Ruth (Lacey) Brooks; one son, Robin Brooks and his wife, Lynn of Athol; one daughter, Susan Nasson and her husband, David of Lynnfield; seven grandchildren, Evan and Olivia Nasson, Trevor Brooks and his wife, Octavia, Tyler Brooks and his companion, Tillie Nutter, Wesley and Tara Brooks, and Heather O’Hara and her husband, Colin; two great grandchildren, Harper and Vernon Brooks; one brother, John Brooks III and his wife, Mary of Weymouth; one sister, Barbara Coutts of Bridgewater; daughter-in-law, Querida Masters of Royalston; many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a son, Dennis Brooks, and a brother, Alvan Brooks.
Funeral services are private under the direction of Fiske-Murphy & Mack Funeral Home, 110 New Athol Rd., Orange.
