GARDNER - Victor J. Spar, 64, of Gardner died Wednesday, August 3, 2011 in Heywood Hospital, Gardner. He was born September 25, 1946 in Yonkers, New York the son of Daniel and Marilyn P. (Steinberg) Spar. He grew up in Yonkers and graduated from Yonkers High School. Victor graduated from Franklin Pierce College with a B.A. in Economics and Marketing; he received a Masters specializing in Special Education from Fitchburg State College; he received C.A.G.S. in Counseling and Psychology from Anna Maria College and he attended Boston University and was working towards his doctorate. Victor worked for over 40 years in education, in 1970 he worked at Athol Junior High School and went on to work in the Orange School System, Gardner School System and spent over 10 years working at Eagle Hill School. He was a member of the Gardner Fish & Gun Club and the Gardner Lodge of Elks. Victor was very active in the Greater Gardner Youth Hockey program and also served as President of the Gardner High School Hockey Booster Association for many years. He was affiliated with several Educational and Psychology Associations. He was an avid reader and Boston sports fan. A family man at heart he loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He leaves his wife of 41 years, Valerie (Dietz) Spar; three sons; Matthew V. Spar of Torrington, CT, Steven J. Spar and his wife Mindy of Spencer, MA, Geoffrey J. Spar and his wife Alison of Leominster; two grandchildren, Matthew W. Spar of Torrington, CT and Evan D. Spar of Spencer, MA. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 6, 2011 at 10AM in the Mack Funeral Home, 91 Vernon St., Gardner, MA. A private family burial will be in Greenbower Cemetery, Gardner. Calling hours will be held Friday, August 5, 2011 from 5 - 8 p.m. at the Mack Funeral Home, 91 Vernon St., Gardner. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in his memory to the Heywood Hospital - Oncology Department, 242 Green St., Gardner, MA 01440.
