LEOMINSTER - Victoria E. (Gosselin) Girouard,104, formerly of 70
Lakeview Street, Leominster, died peacefully on Friday July 23, 2010
at the home of her daughter at 600 Brooks Pond Road, Leominster, after
an illness.
She was born on January 9, 1906 in Fitchburg, the daughter of the late
Helver Gosselin and Rosealma (Beaulac) Girouard and came to Leominster
over 70 years ago.
She leaves four daughters, Claire Coffey of Hixon, Tennessee, Lorraine
Comings and her husband Alfred of Odenton, Maryland, Rosemary "Marty"
Maclean of Lunenburg, Grace Perla of Leominster; thirteen
grandchildren, thirty-five great grandchildren and seven great-great
grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband of fifty years, Benoni Girouard, in
1978; also by her son, Donald V. Girouard, in June of 1960; by two
sisters, Cecile Cooper Schaefer of Long Island New York and Anna St.
Onge of Leominster. Victoria is also predeceased by two sons-in-law,
Joseph R. Perla, in 2002 and Donald Maclean in 2006; by a great
grandson, C. Jason Coffey, in 1978; and by her companion, Joe LeBlanc,
in 1998.
Victoria attended Fitchburg Schools and was a communicant of St.
Cecilia's Church in Leominster. She was employed by the Rockwell
Woolen Mill in Leominster for many years until her retirement in 1969.
Victoria was a member of the Leominster and Townsend Bowling Leagues.
She also bowled with the Senior Citizens at the Mason Allies and
Putnam Street Bowling Alley and was a member of the Leominster Senior
Citizens and the Leominster Golden Agers. Victoria loved dancing and
bowling and was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox.
Mrs. Girouard was the oldest living resident in the City of Leominster
and was presented the Boston Post Cane Award in 2006.
The funeral will be held on Tuesday, July 27,2010 from the Simard
Funeral Home, 14 Walker Street, Leominster with an 11:00 a.m. Mass of
Christian Burial in St. Cecilia's Church, 180 Mechanic Street,
Leominster. Burial will follow in St. Cecilia's Cemetery, Leominster.
Calling hours will be held in the funeral home on Monday, July 26,
2010 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers donations in her memory may be made to the St.
Cecilia's Church Restoration Fund, 180 Mechanic St., Leominster, MA
01453 or Summit Elder Care, 55 Cinema Blvd., Leominster, MA 01453 or
may be left at the funeral home.
