ATHOL-Viola A. (Mabey) Sanger, age 93, of Athol died Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at Quabbin Valley Healthcare of Athol, MA.
Viola was born September 8, 1922 in Warren, RI. She is the daughter of the late Leon and the late Rose (Gauthier) Mabey. She was predeceased by her husband, Ralph L. Sanger in 1980.
Viola grew up in Athol and lived here all of her life. She lived at Quabbin Valley Healthcare for the past 4 years. She graduated from Athol High School in 1940.
She worked at the L.S. Starrett Company for several years, was a housekeeper for several years, took care of the elderly in their homes, and was a homemaker.
She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, working in the thrift shop for many years, served in the Altar Guild, and a member of Banner Rebecca Lodge Pythian Sisters. She enjoyed doing cross stitch, playing cards, and especially loved playing bingo at Quabbin Valley.
She is survived by three daughters: Shirley Kaczmarczyk and her husband, Joe of Athol, Margaret Mottashed and her husband, Mark of Lake Tahoe, CA, and Sheila McGuire and her husband, Mike of San Leandro, CA; five grandchildren, David, Donald, Steven, Heidi, and Neil; three great grandchildren, Joseph, Adrianna, and Audrey; a step-daughter, Betty Derosier of Athol; granddaughter, Sherrie Trahan of Wendell; great granddaughter, Kim; and many nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her daughter, Linda Buzzell, brothers, Bill and Charles Mabey, and her sister, Sylvia Hebert.
The funeral will be held on Saturday, September 19 at 11:00 A.M. at St. John's Episcopal Church, 15 Park Avenue, Athol, MA with Rev. William Hobbs officiating. Burial will follow in Silver Lake Cemetery.
A calling hour will be held Saturday, September 19, from 9:30 to 10:30 A.M. in the funeral home.
