Violet J. Stockwell

ORANGE - Violet J. (Green) Stockwell, 93, of 78 New Athol Road, Orange, died Tuesday, May 6, 2008 in St. Vincent's Hospital, Worcester, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born in Athol, on February 24, 1915, the daughter of the late Sidney and the late Mary (La Mude) Green. Mrs. Stockwell graduated from Athol High School in 1931. She was a secretary at L.S. Starrett Company for many years, and upon her retirement she became parish secretary of St. John's Episcopal Church in Athol. She taught children Sunday school for several years and was a lifetime member of the church. She was a Vestry Member of the Church and active in the Episcopal Diocese. She loved working on puzzles, reading, and traveling to Florida. She enjoyed knitting and needlework projects for church fairs and bazaars. Violet leaves close friends, Jerome, Ingrid and Octavia Willard of Orange; three nephews, Daniel Stockwell and his wife Merry of Roxbury, N.H., David Stockwell and his wife Carol of Claremont, N.H., and Wilfred Stockwell and his wife Carol of Orange; six great-nephews, Daniel Jr., Stephen, John, Jeffrey, Brian and Michael; four great-nieces, Carolyn, Melissa, Elise and Beth; eight great-great-nieces and nephews; her special friend, Christine Hasanbasic; and many cousins, friends and Parish family. She was predeceased by her husband, Edgar Stockwell, and by her sister, Queenie Green. A Memorial Mass will be held Wednesday, May 14, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. in St. John's Episcopal Church, 15 Park Avenue, Athol. A reception in Tory Hall will take place immediately following the Mass. A private burial will be held at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours.
