Virginia F. (Gray) Hinchey

Virginia F. Hinchey Athol – Virginia F. (Gray) Hinchey, 63, of 272 Drury Ave., died Wednesday, July 11, 2012, at UMass Memorial Medical Center-Memorial Campus in Worcester.      Virginia was born in Chicago, IL, Sept. 20, 1948, the daughter of James and Margaret (Peteler) Gray. She grew up in Wheaton, IL, where she graduated from high school. She later attended the University of Illinois in Chicago and California College of Arts and Crafts. She lived in Sacramento, California, for 10 years and for the past 27 years has resided in Athol. Virginia worked as a reporter and wrote the column "North Quabbin Upbeat" for the Athol Daily News for many years, later working for the Salvation Army at the thrift store where she was manager, and at GAAAFSN as a social worker. She most recently worked at the Salvation Army, Athol Corps until her illness.      She was a lover of the arts and a very talented artist who was able to draw a chalk drawing of a subject in minutes. She loved her gardens and flowers, and spending time with her grandchildren, children and husband.       She leaves her husband of 39 years, William Hinchey; five sons, Joseph and Paul both of New York City, James of Kailua, Hawaii, Matthew of Webster, and Patrick of Athol; a daughter, Anne Ferreria of Athol; six grandchildren, Aidan, Emma, Nola, Ava, Aislin, and Alana; her mother Margaret Gray of Downers Grove, Ill., and a sister, Katherine Gray of San Diego, CA      A graveside will be held Monday, July 16, at 10 a.m. at Silver Lake Cemetery (entrance off Horrigan Ave.) with Lt Elliott Higgins, Athol Commanding Officer & pastor of the Salvation Army.  Calling hours will be held Sunday, July 15, from 2 to 4 p.m., at Higgins-O’Connor Funeral Home, 146 Main St., Athol.  Virginia loved flowers and those wishing to make a donation in Virginia’s name may make contributions to the Salvation Army-Athol Corps, 107 Ridge Ave., Athol, Mass. 01331.  For further information or to share a memory with the family go to www.higginsoconnorfuneralhome.com. $(document).ready(function(){ });
