Virginia Mae Nevins

ATHOL - Virginia Mae (Brackett) Nevins, 89 of 416 Main Street, Athol, died January 30, 2010 in the Athol Memorial Hospital. She was born in Athol, on December 5, 1920, the daughter of Clarence and Marguerite (Joyce) Brackett and graduated from Athol High School with the Class of 1938. Virginia worked at the Athol Memorial Hospital as an LPN for over twenty years, was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church where she was on the Altar Guild and volunteered at the Thrift Shop. Virgina served on the Council of Aging for ten years and volunteered at the voting polls in Athol. She loved to travel, was an excellent skier and skied in Austria, Germany, Sun Valley, Idaho and Vermont. Also, she enjoyed bowling, tennis, knitting, playing cards especially poker, Scrabble, and spending summers at the family lake house in Fitzwilliam, NH. She leaves four daughters, Jackie Judsky of Marietta, GA, Jennifer Nevins of York Village, ME, Joyce Nevins of Fountain Hills, AZ, Jaye Nevins of Holyoke, MA; two sons, J. Bart Nevins of Bellingham, WA, Jeffrey Nevins of Hailey, ID; one brother, Donn Brackett of 29 Palms, CA; a brother in-law, Dustin Burke of Athol; a sister in-law, Roberta Brackett of Fitzwilliam, NH; eleven grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren (and two on the way); and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 51 years, Frank Nevins who died in 1990, and by two daughters, Joan Pitcairn who died in 1992, and Judith Bowden who died in 2003. Calling hours will be held Wednesday, February 3, 2010, from 10:00 - 12:00 pm at the Fiske Funeral Home 1356 Main St., Athol, followed by funeral services at 12:30 pm in St. John's Episcopal Church, 15 Park Avenue, Athol. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in her memory to St. John's Episcopal Church, 15 Park Avenue, Athol, MA 01331. $(document).ready(function(){ });
