Walter J. Barbieri
Athol – Walter J. Barbieri, 77, of Silver Lake Street, died Tuesday, March 24, 2015 at the Athol Hospital with his loving family at his side.
Walter was born in Brooklyn, New York September 3, 1937, the son of George and Clemintina (Delia) Barbieri. He grew up in Brooklyn where he graduated from high school and since 1972 has resided in Athol.
Walter served in the U.S. Marine Corp for three years and with the Marine Corp reserve and the National Guard. He worked as a heavy equipment operator for many years for several construction companies in New England. He loved fishing, was an avid Boston Red Sox fan, loved camping and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
He leaves his wife of 42 years, Debbie (St.Hilare) Barbieri; his children, Walter Barbieri, Jr. and his wife Debbi, Laura Shaw and her husband Bryan, Brenda Barbieri and Joseph Barbieri; four grandchildren, Ashley, Bryan, Jr., Anthony and Gavin; a great-grandson, Byron; three brothers, Dominic, George and Ronnie and several nieces and nephews.
