Walter J. Conlan

GARDNER – Walter J. Conlan 90, of Gardner died Wednesday, January 21, 2015 in the Notre Dame Long Term Care Center, Worcester after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease.   He was born on October 14, 1924 in Orange, New Jersey the son of Richard P. Conlan and Mary E. (Ort) Conlan. Walter graduated from the former Coyle High School in Taunton, Mass and went on to receive an associates degree in engineering from Worcester Junior College.  He was an engineer with the General Electric Company in Fitchburg, MA for 35 years and retired in 1985.   Mr. Conlan was a veteran of World War II serving in the United States Navy. He was a member of Holy Spirit Church, and the Gardner VFW.  He enjoyed traveling, reading, playing bridge, golfing, and rooting on all Boston sports teams.   He leaves his wife of 67 years, Pearl A. (Cosentino) Conlan; two daughters, Mary E Cormier and her husband John of Delray Beach, Florida; Katherine L. Daddario and her husband Louis of Spring, Texas; a son Rev. Walter J Conlan, Jr. S.J.; of Boston College, a son, Michael E. Conlan and his significant other Janice Byrd of Tucker Georgia; three grandchildren, Lynn (Cormier) Sayarath and her husband Sommay and their children Jaiden and Tai, Amy (Cormier) Rameau and her husband Daniel Rameau and their children Daniel Jr. and Drew; Paul Daddario and his fiancée Katherine Dronka.   He was predeceased by two brothers Richard Conlan and Edward Conlan.   Funeral Services with military honors will be held Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at 11:30 AM in the Mack Funeral Home, 91 Vernon St., Gardner.  Burial will be private in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Winchendon. Calling hours will be held Wednesday, January 28, 2015 in the Mack Funeral Home 91 Vernon St., Gardner from 9:00 to 11:30 AM. The family understands that friends and family from out of town may not be able to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Notre Dame Long Term Care Center 559 Plantation St., Worcester, MA 01605 or to the House of Peace and Education, 20 Barthel Ave., Gardner, MA 01440.
