ATHOL - Walter W. Flanders, 81 of 655 Hapgood St., Athol, died Thursday, May 1, 2008 in the Athol Memorial Hospital, Athol.
He was born in W. Stewartstown, NH, on August 26, 1926, the son of the late Walter and the late Alice (Brooks) Flanders.
He was a veteran of World War II serving in the US Army, he received the following decorations and citations, the Army of Occupation Medal, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. He was honorably discharged on August 5, 1946. Mr. Flanders enjoyed sports, TV and Bowling.
He leaves his wife of 59 years, Jacquelyn (Bumford) Flanders, three daughters: Wendy Flanders of Orange, Roxanne Gauthier and husband Allen of Athol, Cindy Chapalonis and husband Terry of Athol, and two sons: Michael Flanders and wife Linda of Orange, Patrick Flanders of Athol, one sister: Myrtie Kullgren and husband Harold of Temple, NH and two brothers: Robert Flanders and wife Pat of Rockville, CT, Jesse Young and wife Margaret of Colebrook, NH, sixteen grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Monday, May 5, 2008 at 1:00 pm in the Fiske Funeral Home, 1356 Main Street, Athol. Burial will follow in Silver Lake Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held Sunday, May 4, 2008, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Fiske Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in his memory to American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
