Baldwinville- Walter P. “Jerry†Cwartkowski, 89, of Baldwinville, passed away peacefully on Sunday November 3rd, 2013 in the Baldwinville Nursing Home. He was born in Baldwinville on January 15, 1924, the son of the late John and Mary (Dlugkanska) Cwartkowski.
Jerry graduated from Templeton High School in 1942 and entered into the U.S. Army on March 4, 1943 to serve his country during WW II. He served in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes, and Central Europe. He earned the Good Conduct Medal, European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon, and the Victory Medal. He was discharged honorably on December 19, 1945.
Upon his return from military service, Jerry went on to work at Baldwinville Products for 40 years, retiring in 1986. He was a member of the Baldwinville American Legion Post 373, Pulaski Guards, and a former member of the Gardner VFW. He enjoyed all New England sports, NASCAR racing, trips to the casino, playing the lottery, and horse and dog racing.
Jerry leaves behind his three children, Ann Cwartkowski, Sue Cwartkowski and David Cwartkowski, all of Baldwinville, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was predeceased in 1993 by his wife of 37 years, Mary (Anderson) Cwartkowski; by three brothers, Stanley, Victor and Alexander “Jackâ€; his twin sister Gladys Kowlzan and his step-father, Alec Kalinowski.
Calling hours will be held at the Poliks Funeral Home, 431 Pleasant St., Gardner, MA on Wednesday, November 6, 2013 from 5:00-7:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, November 7, 2013 at 10:00 am at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 1 Forest St., Baldwinville, MA. Burial with military honors will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, West St., Gardner, MA.
