Warren R. Ramsdell

March 3, 1929 — February 21, 2004

Warren R. Ramsdell, 74, of 10R Eagleville Rd., Orange, passed away Saturday, February 21 at UMASS Memorial Medical Center, University Campus, Worcester after a brief illness. He was born in New Salem March 3, 1929, son fo the late Thomas and Rose (Wilbur) Ramsdell and spent his early years in the Millington section of what is now the Quabbin Resevoir. He attended Orange High School and obtained his G.E.D. from Mt. Wachusett Community College in Gardner. At age 17 he left school and entered the Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, NY. At the start of the Korean Conflict he joined the U.S. Army, eventually doing a tour of duty in Austria. Warren was president of the Orange Little League throughout the mid 1960's and 1970's. He was also a member of the America Legion in Orange. An avid outdoorsman and gardener, he was very passionate in his love of deer hunting and ice fishing. He always enjoyed the company of his fellow sportsman when spending time in the woods or on the ice in the New England area. He was also a long standing disappointed Red Sox fan. Warren was well known for offering advice or voicing displeasure in local, state and national politics. His greatest pleasure was spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife of fifty years, Anne (Polana) Ramsdell and three sons; Gene Ramsdell and his wife Nancy of Athol, Larry Ramsdell and his wife Lori of New Salem and Scott Ramsdell and his dear friend Laura of Patterson, NY. He also leaves one grandaughter, Christy Ramsdell of New Salem and numerous nephews and nieces. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a celebration of his life on Wednesday, February 25 at 5:30 PM in J. EDWARD MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, 137 Main St., Athol. Visiting hours will follow the celebration at the funeral home until 8 PM. Burial in Holtshire Cemetery, Orange will take place sometime in the spring. Memorial contributions in his memory may be made to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01709.
