GARDNER - Wesley M. Amadon, Jr., 88 of 85 Elizabeth Street, Gardner, died Tuesday, May 22, 2012 in the Heywood Hospital, Gardner. He was born in Gardner, on October 1, 1923, the son of the late Wesley M. and the late Martha (Leschner) Amadon. He grew up in Gardner and graduated from Templeton High School. Mr. Amadon was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Navy, he witnessed the raising of the flag at Iwo Jima. He was employed by GEM Industries and Crib, F.A. Nichols. He was a self-employed contractor in the Gardner area for over 40 years. He was a member of the Gardner VFW and was past President of the Gardner Lions Club; he was a 60 years member of the Gardner Hope Lodge of Masons A.F.A.M. and a member of the Chestnut Street United Methodist Church. He enjoyed playing golf, flower gardening and traveling in his earlier years. He leaves one daughter: Carla Wojtukiewicz and her husband Robert of Gardner and two sons: Richard Amadon and his wife Donna of Virginia, Martin Amadon and his companion Cynthia Dibble of Virginia; his companion, Barbara Diamond of Gardner with whom he lived; three sisters: Virginia Conti of Greenfield, Betty O'Brien of Gardner, Merle Weber of Orange; two brothers: John Amadon of PA, Phillip Amadon of Athol; four grandchildren; two great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife of 45 years, Lucy V. (Lore) Amadon who died in 1995, by his brother, Richard Amadon and by his grandson Nicholas Wojtukiewicz who died in 2009. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 25, 2012 at 1:30 pm in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Winchendon. Calling hours will be held Friday, May 25, 2012, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Mack Funeral Home 91 Vernon St., Gardner. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in his memory to Chestnut Street United Methodist Church, 161 Chestnut St., Gardner, MA 01440.
