Fitchburg- Wilfred E. Jacques, 95 of Fitchburg. formerly of Daytona Beach, FL and Leominster, MA passed away Friday, February 3, 2017, at the Golden Living Center, Fitchburg, MA.
He was born on June 23, 1921, in St. Jacques Leeds, Quebec, Canada, the son of Clara H. (Sylvain) Jacques and Alfred J. Jacques. Will worked at Simonds Saw & Steel (Simonds Cutting Tools) for 43 years, retiring in 1983. Will was a Corporal in the US Marine Corp from 1942-1945. He served in the Asiatic-Pacific area and New Zealand, and earned the Asiatic-Pacific Ribbon with four stars. He also served in Guam, and Iwo Jima, for which he received the Purple Heart. He was a life member of the American Legion Post 429. Will was an avid card player and ferocious reader. He will be greatly missed. He is survived by three daughters and two sons - in- law; Constance and Ronald Harris of Bluffton, SC, Sandra Craig, and Debra and David Campbell of Leominster; five grandchildren Scott and Jeffrey Harris, Jacqueline Connolly, and Michael and Timothy Campbell, and nine great-grandchildren. He also leaves one brother Alfred J. Jacques Jr., of Fitchburg, and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Anita G. (LaPointe) Jacques in 2005, two sisters Bernadette Dufresne Martineau, and Irene Demazure both of Fitchburg, MA, and three brothers John P. Jacques of Port Orange, FL, and Fitchburg, Clairmont Jacques and Clarence Jacques both of Fitchburg.
A Mass of Christian Burial with Full Military Honors will be held Thursday February 9, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Cecilia's Church, 168 Mechanic St., Leominster. Burial will be in the Spring in St. Cecilia Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Wednesday February 8, 2017 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm in the Simard Funeral Home, 14 Walker St., Leominster, MA.
