WESTMINSTER - Wilho Oinonen, 92, formerly of 57 Colony Rd., Westminster, died Tuesday, August 26, 2008 in the Wachusett Manor Nursing Home in Gardner.
He was born in Gardner on September 15, 1915, the son of the late John E. and Hilda M. (Pietikainen) Oinonen.
Mr. Oinonen graduated from Gardner high School with the class of 1935, and had resided in Westminster for over 46 years. He served during World War II in the U.S. Army Air Force as a Corporal from 1942-1945. He was employed by the former Florence Stove Company for 23 years. He later worked as an engineer for Digital Equipment Company in Maynard, before his retirement in 1980. He was a member of the Westminster Friendship Club.
Mr. Oinonen leaves two nephews, Richard Oinonen and his wife Marcia of Maine, John Oinonen and his wife Lorna of Rhode Island; one niece, Christine Grossman and her husband Raymond of Baldwinville, and their sons Michael Grossman of Minnesota, and David Grossman of New Hampshire; a close friend, Alice M. Kauss and her family of Westminster.
He was predeceased by his wife, Vivion Hebert, who died in 1988, by his sister, Lilia Hyvonen who died in 2001, and by his brother, Ensio Oinonen, who died in 1996.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, August 30, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Westminster.
There are no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in his memory to Faith Lutheran Church Scholarship Fund, 627 Green St., Gardner, MA 01440.
