William M. "Cazzie” Casavant

January 23, 1956 — November 18, 2022

Gardner

GARDNER - William M. “Cazzie” Casavant, 66, died Friday, November 18, 2022, at home surrounded by his family.

He was born in Gardner on January 23, 1956, a son of the late Wilfred Casavant and Sylvia (LeBlanc) Casavant.

Cazzie grew up in Gardner and graduated from Gardner High School in 1974 where he was a leader on the varsity baseball team playing shortstop.

He worked at George Bent for many years before switching careers to work for J. J. Nissen Co. where he retired as a delivery driver. For the last decade, he proudly worked at the Gardner Municipal Golf Course. Billy attracted many friends with his genuine friendliness, ready smile and hearty laugh.

Cazzie never lost his passion for playing softball, participating in many leagues and tournaments throughout his life and spending these last 20 years on the same team as his son, Brett. Despite his natural slice, he could always be found playing golf, enjoying many rounds on many courses with friends and family.

He is survived by his son, Brett, and daughter-in-law Meagan Casavant of Gardner, a daughter, Lauren Casavant and partner Erik Mendoza of Sterling; two brothers, Paul Casavant and husband Richard Williams of North Berwick, Maine, Phil Casavant of Royalston; two grandchildren, Louise Mendoza and Callahan Casavant, and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a sister, Barbara Jane Casavant, and brother, Lawrence Casavant.

Billy would want to be remembered for the laughs and good times. In the words of Cazzie, “I never had a bad day in my life.”

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, November 23, 2022, at 11 am in Calvary Cemetery, Glenallen St., Winchendon.
