PHILLIPSTON- William W. Hakkila, 69, of Phillipston, died Saturday, March 21, in Heywood Hospital, after an illness.
He was born November 15, 1945, in Worcester, son of the late Walfred “Otto†and Gladys (Marean) Hakkila. Mr. Hakkila graduated from Athol High School. He then joined the U.S. Navy serving on the USS Dixie during the Vietnam War. He worked for the former Sprague Electric, now Allegro Microsystems, for 32 years before his retirement. After his retirement, he worked for Huhtala Oil and Beauregard Package Store. He was a member of the Gardner VFW Post 905. Bill was an avid reader and sports fan.
His wife, Carol (Milan) Hakkila, died in 2004.
He leaves his son, Jason Hakkila and his wife, Angela of Phillipston; and two grandchildren, Sophia and Calvin Hakkila.
The funeral will be held Thursday, March 26 at 12:00 PM in Mack Funeral Home, 91 Vernon St., Gardner. Burial with military honors will follow in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Winchendon.
A calling hour will be held Thursday, March 26, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Montachusett Veterans Outreach Center Inc., 238 Central St. Suite A, Gardner, MA 01440.
