ATHOL - William C. Hayes, 93 of 739 Daniel Shays Highway, Athol, died Wednesday, February 14, 2007 in the Quabbin Valley Healthcare, Athol.
He was born in Waltham, MA, on March 20, 1913, the son of the late William A. and the late Emma (Leary) Hayes.
Mr. Hayes was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Navy.
He was a former member of the Newton Knights of Columbus No. 167, the Lions Club, the American Legion and St Vincent DePaul. He enjoyed woodworking and gardening.
He leaves three daughters, Marian O'Sullivan and her husband James of Northboro, Regina Kamyck and her husband Henry of Worcester, Martha Dumas and her husband Joseph of Yarmouthport; one son, William Hayes and his wife Barbara of Sandwich; two sisters, Mary Langton of Marlboro, Ann Bourque of PA; one brother, Malcolm Hayes of Waltham; a step son, Richard Ray and his wife Patricia of Athol; eight grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, three step grandsons and several step great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his first wife Martha (O'Brien) Hayes who died in 1974; by his second wife, Marjorie (Looney) Ray-Hayes who died in 2005, by four brothers, Edmond Hayes, Jonathan Hayes, Paul Hayes, Archibald Hayes, and by one sister, Eleanor Kelly.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 17, 2007, at 10 a.m. in Our Lady Immaculate Church, 192 School St., Athol. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Marlboro.
Calling hours will be held Friday, February 16, 2007, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the J. Edward Murphy Funeral Home 137 Main St., Athol.
