William "Bill" J. Battaini

THE VILLAGES,FL - William “Bill” J. Battaini Sr., 81, of The Villages, FL formerly of Athol died Thursday, January 16, 2014 at home after a long illness surrounded by his family. Mr. Battaini was born October 25, 1932 in Athol, the son of the late Angelo G. and the late Emily (Ferrari) Battaini.      He grew up in Athol and graduated from Athol High School with the class of 1950.  He was an accomplished athlete in high school where he was quarterback for the football team and played basketball and baseball.  He married Theresa P. (Landry) Battaini on October 27, 1951. He worked for the Union Twist Drill Company for a few years and worked for Girardi Distributors for over 40 years as a truck driver and a long-time salesman.  He also helped at his parent’s family business The Highland Cafe over the years. Bill was a member and past president of Ellinwood Country Club; a member of Our Lady Immaculate Church and while living in Florida a member of St. Timothy's Church. Being an avid sportsman, he enjoyed playing softball, volleyball and basketball at the YMCA.  He enjoyed playing cards, harness racing and especially enjoyed time spent with his loving family. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Theresa P.(Landry) Battaini; five daughters, Sally A. Teittinen and her husband Lane of Summerfield, FL, Peggy J. Battaini of Athol, Terry L. Cloutier and her husband John of Athol, Jody M. Corey and her husband David of Phillipston, MA, Tammy M. Caissie and her husband Matthew of Phillipston; five sons, William J. Battaini Jr. and his wife Mary of Summerfield, FL, John M. Battaini of Fort Lauderdale, FL, Danny M. Battaini of Debary, FL, Angelo E. "Bubba" Battaini and his wife Mary Ann of Haverhill, MA, Joseph B. Battaini and his wife Danielle of Leominster;  two sisters, Mary E. Bevis of Orange, Patricia A. Leblanc of Gardner; 11 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Angelo J. Battaini in 2005. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady Immaculate Church, 192 School St., Athol, MA.  Burial will follow in Silver Lake Cemetery.   Calling hours will be held Tuesday, January 28, 2014 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Fiske-Murphy & Mack Funeral Home 110 New Athol Road, Orange. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in his memory to  Athol High School Scholarship Association, P.O.
