LUNENBURG - William Chalond Mead, 81, of 91 Maple Parkway, Lunenburg died Monday, November 21, 2011 surrounded by his loving family in the Health Alliance Hospital, Leominster.
He was born on December 31, 1929 in Madawaska Maine the son of Albert and Ethel (Simpson) Mead. He moved to Portland Maine at the age of two and was a resident there for many years.
Mr. Mead was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the U.S. Coast Guard. He was employed at Decatone, in Westminster, as a Chief Engineer. He then went on to work at Fitchburg Paper and at General Electric in the Turbine Division.
He attended the Assembly of God Church in Leominster. He enjoyed camping and traveling with his wife in their RV. They traveled to every state in the RV with the exception of Hawaii and also traveled through all the Canadian Provinces.
Bill enjoyed mountain hiking and was a member of the 4,000 Club for climbing all the New England Mountains with elevations above 4,000 feet. He also enjoyed wood working, coin collecting and building award winning doll houses and he was a member of the American Foreign Legion. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who cherished the time he spent with his family. He loved the Lord with whom he is with now.
He leaves his wife of 60 years, Ann Marie (Parillo) Mead; two daughters, Debora A. Passios of Lunenburg, Wendy M. Mead of Sutton; three sons, William A. Mead and his wife Dina of Westfield, MA, Richard P. Mead and his wife Deborah of Culver City, CA, Robert A. Mead and his wife Brenda of Ashland, Oregon; nine grandchildren, Emily Larson, Julie Mead, Marissa Mead, Lauren Mead, Jennifer Passios, Steven Passios, Forrest Mead, Peston Mead, Kyle Mead-Matthews; and one great granddaughter, Sophia Larson.
Bill is greatly missed by his best friend, partner in life and wife of 60 years.
A memorial service will be held Friday, November 25, 2011, at 2 p.m. in the Assembly of God Church, 834 Main St., Leominster. Burial will be at a day and time to be announced in the Massachusetts Veterans Cemetery, Winchendon, MA.
