ATHOL- William C. White, 77, of Athol, died Tuesday, August 7, at Athol Memorial Hospital, after an illness.
William was born August 24, 1940, in Gardner, son of the late Cyrille and Helen (Darling) White. He graduated from Athol High School in 1958. After his high school graduation, he served in the U. S. Army. William worked as an electrician for Erving Paper Mill for over 40 years.
He was a big Red Sox and Patriots fan. He enjoyed playing Sunday morning Softball until he was 62. He coached his sons in Little League teams for 10 years. He also enjoyed trains. He loved camping at Old Orchard Beach for 27 years. William was active with the VFW Drill Team, and was a member of the Elks and American Legion Post 102 in Athol.
He leaves his wife of 53 years, Barbara (Clement) White; three sons, William M. White and his wife, Heidi of Barre, Kevin White and his wife, Christy, and Craig White, all of Athol; six grandchildren, Brandon, Jordan, and Amber White, Nicole Auger, Kyle, and Ryan White; two great grandchildren, Vallerie and Koda White; three sisters, Evelyn Tarmon of TX, Marjorie Day and her husband, Lowell of CA, and Virginia Shephardson and her husband, David of NH; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was predeceased by a brother, Richard White.
Calling hours are Monday, August 13, from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Higgins-O’Connor Funeral Home, 146 Main St. Athol.
The funeral will be held Tuesday, August 14 at 11:00 A.M. in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Silver Lake Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Athol Animal Control Shelter, c/o Athol Police Department, 280 Exchange St., Athol, MA 01331, or to the charity of one’s choice.
