GARDNER- Yvon J. Gallant, 72, of Gardner, died Wednesday, July 13, in
Leominster Hospital, after an illness.
Yvon was born September 30, 1943, in Grandique, New Brunswick and moved to
the U.S. in 1961.
He served two tours of Vietnam in the U.S. Army earning the Combat Infantry
Badge, National Defense Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Device, and
the Vietnam Service Medal. His patriotism was very evident, and he was
proud to become a naturalized citizen of the United States.
Mr. Gallant worked for Heywood Wakefield for 10 years. He then worked for
Data Guide for 30 years before his retirement. A loyal, hardworking man, he
never missed a day of work in all his years.
He took great joy in his annual pilgrimage to New Brunswick during lobster
season. He was an avid sports fan, especially hockey. He enjoyed gardening,
visiting farm stands flea marketing and was a regular at Rietta Ranch. He loved animals, especially his cat.
He leaves his three children, Thomas Gallant and his wife, Susan of
Belmont, NH, Scott Gallant of Gardner, and Donna Sweeney and her husband,
Kevin of Orange; two grandsons, Nicholas and Sean Sweeney of Orange; one
great granddaughter, Scarlett; one brother, Richard Gallant and his wife,
Noella of Gardner; one sister, Rita Leger of Haute Aboujagane, New Brunswick; many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by three brothers and two sisters in law, Albert Gallant
and his wife Mary, Leo Gallant, and Henry Gallant and his wife, Mary.
The funeral will be held Tuesday, July 19, at 12:00 P.M. in
Lamoureux-Fletcher Community Funeral Home, 105 Central St., Gardner. Burial
with military honors, will follow in the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial
Cemetery.
Calling hours are Tuesday, July 19, from 11:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. in the
funeral home.
